Helping Single Mothers and Their Children Celebrate Rosh Hashanah

Every year before Rosh Hashanah and Pesach I invite you to help support an extremely important organization in Israel: EmHabanim, which provides a vast array of services to single-parent families. My wife, who is a social worker, personally counsels many children who are beneficiaries of their programs, and cannot speak highly enough of the organization.
During Tishrei, Em HaBanim provides a Rosh Hashanah for hundreds of mothers and children, who would otherwise find themselves alone for the Chag. The organization also runs a Simchas Torah program and a Simchas Beis Hashoeva for those children who have no father to dance with them or otherwise rejoice in them.
Malka Yarom, who runs Em Habanim, is one of the most selfless people I have ever met. She is a former school teacher, who started the organization when she noticed that many of those who responded to her offers of Shabbos hospitality posted in Sha'arei Tzedek Hospital were single mothers. As she heard about the problems that are unique to divorced women -- even compared to widows who are usually integrated into a community and the beneficiaries of a good deal of support -- she decided to start an organization for them.
